A teller of real life stories with humour!
Ian is a well known racing personality, having been a horse racing commentator for 40 years, calling greyhounds, harness and gallops throughout his time behind the microphone.
Born in the Canterbury township of Methven, Ian was a good sportsman in his younger days, representing his school ( Methven District High School- as it was known in those days), in a variety of sports ;; track and field, swimming, hockey, rugby, and tennis.
In his school days, Ian was adamant he wanted to be a Harness Racing Driver, but, being a chronic asthmatic, he couldn’t get near a bale of hay without finishing up in hospital.
Harness Racing was his love, so instead of working with horses, he chose another path within the sport- that of commentating.
Ian started calling trials back in 1970, in Ashburton and Methven, before getting his first official “ on air” meeting at Methven in Sept 1980- filling in for Reon Murtha,- whilst he was on holiday.
When the late Jack O’Donnell past away, Ian took over as the West Coast caller, and shortly afterwards, Nelson and Blenheim also.
Ian continued in that role, calling Harness and Gallops, before retiring in 2010.
Iantertainment came about after a gig at a mates party, whereby an Auckland entertainment promoter( who was in attendance) convinced Ian to take it further- and so we are here!!!
“This is a comedy show that I have developed, whereby I tell comedy stories on my life’s experiences - either I have done them, or my mates have.” Said Ian.
“If the comments from people who have attended some earlier shows are anything to go by, then, this is going to be great fun- Racing and a couple of songs are also included in the show. I’m really looking forward to the future” said Ian
